FLOCKFIELD FEMALE 7 YEARS 8 MONTHS
1 CUB 6 MONTHS
CENTRAL & EASTERN FLOCKFIELD, NORTHERN CHARLESTON
(0 sighting of female, 1 sightings of female and cub, 0 sightings of cub alone)
We only had one fairly brief sighting of this female and her cub. Seen near Borehole Road in Flockfield, the cub was looking more relaxed than the last time it was viewed, and the mother seemed just fine about the vehicles following her and her youngster.

FLOCKFIELD FEMALE 7 YEARS 7 MONTHS
1 CUB 5 MONTHS
CENTRAL & EASTERN FLOCKFIELD, NORTHERN CHARLESTON
(2 sighting of female, 2 sightings of female and cub, 1 sightings of cub alone)
It’s become apparent that only one of her cubs has managed to survive, but we’re happy to report that the little one is looking healthy. Quality sightings were had of them this month. On one afternoon we watched them strolling through an open area in southern Flockfield. The youngster was filled with youthful exuberance, running ahead of its mother and then waiting in ambush for her to walk by. Just after sunset the Flockfield female noticed a steenbok in the long grass, and after a short stalk and a burst of speed her prey met its end...about 2m away from the vehicle! The cub is still a little bit nervous, especially when its mother isn’t around. But hopefully if we give it space it needs, it will relax in time.

September 2011
FLOCKFIELD FEMALE 7 YEARS 5 MONTHS
CENTRAL & EASTERN FLOCKFIELD, NORTHERN CHARLESTON (1 sighting of cub alone)
Late one evening drive we found a single cub close to Kapen Rocks, although it quickly scampered off into some thick vegetation. The only female leopard that lives in those parts is the Flockfield female. Hopefully the coming months will show whether it is a single cub, or if there are more. Hopefully the female will bring them out more often.

FLOCKFIELD FEMALE 7 YEARS 4 MONTHS
CENTRAL & EASTERN FLOCKFIELD, NORTHERN CHARLESTON (1 sighting)
She was found at Cheetah Pan this month. Initially she was slightly nervous, but settled down as the Land Rovers followed her. What's exciting is that she is also lactating. Her cubs are probably stashed in the Kapen River somewhere, and try as we might we couldn't follow her long enough to find them. She looks to be healthy though, so let's hope she can raise them to adulthood without too much trouble.

FLOCKFIELD FEMALE 7 YEARS 2 MONTH
CENTRAL & EASTERN FLOCKFIELD, NORTHERN CHARLESTON
(1 sighting)
A promising sighting in that the one time that she was seen during the month it appeared as though she was lactating. With all the numerous gulleys and rocky outcroppings within her territory, she'll have no problem finding safe den sites. She remains as nervous as ever though.

FLOCKFIELD FEMALE 7 YEARS 1 MONTH
CENTRAL & EASTERN FLOCKFIELD, NORTHERN CHARLESTON
(1 sightings)
She was seen once along the Charleston Flockfield boundary during the late afternoon. She didn't appear to nervous, and instead just slowly moved off the road along a game trail. She looked in excellent condition but unfortunately she didn't look pregnant or lactating. By this stage in her life she must have at least given birth to one litter of cubs, but we have yet to see any evidence of this which is a great pity. Hopefully she will soon have some cubs to carry on the proud genes of the Kapen and Jakkalsdraai females.

FLOCKFIELD FEMALE 6 YEARS 8 MONTHS
CENTRAL & EASTERN FLOCKFIELD, NORTHERN CHARLESTON

A usual sighting of this female. As she was spotted and identified she fled the scene. The sighting was in the Mamba waterhole region. And female leopard tracks in the Kapen River indicate that she is still territorial on Flockfield.
