September 2007

HARRY’S FEMALE
1 CUB

Location: TOULON
(2 sightings)

During the latter parts of the report period, the Harry’s female was found, feeding off the carcass of a freshly killed adult male duiker. The female had hoisted the kill, and was feeding intermittently off the carcass. Rangers were pleased to note that the female was in good condition, as it has been over three months since she was last seen. She was seen to feed off the carcass for two consecutive days before she moved off.

June / July / August 2007

HARRY’S FEMALE
1 CUB

Location: TOULON

There were no sightings of this leopard during the report period.

May 2007

HARRY’S FEMALE
1 CUB

Location: TOULON
(1 sightings)

The Harry’s female was seen mating with the Tjellahanga male on Worlds View, just south of Elephant Alley. Unfortunately the sighting did not last as the leopards made their way steadily northwards, eventually disappearing into some thick reed beds east of KK crossing. Hopefully the female will return during the next report period. Interestingly a female leopard is known to follow a male a long way out of her normal territory during mating, possibly the explanation to her sudden and short-lived reappearance.

There have been no confirmed sightings of the Harry’s Female since July 2006.

July 2006

HARRY’S FEMALE
1 CUB

Location: TOULON

(1 sighting)

There was only one recorded sighting of the Harry’s Female during the July report period, in the south of the reserve. On this occasion there was no sign of her cub, which may well have been left in a safe location whilst the female hunted.

February / March / April / May / June 2006

HARRY’S FEMALE

The Harry’s Female and her cub were not seen during the months of Feb, March, April or May.

December 2005

Just the female was seen briefly in the deep south near Sands End Crossing on one occasion.

November 2005

HARRY’S FEMALE
1 CUB
Location: TOULON
(1 sighting of the female, without her cub)

There was just a single sighting of the Harry’s Female leopard in November, and that was on southern Toulon , which has been where she has held a territory for many years now.

October 2005

HARRY’S FEMALE
1 CUB
Location: ( TOULON )
(4 sightings of the female, one of them with her cub)

Quite early in the month the Harry’s Female was seen with a bushbuck kill on southern Toulon . The next day she was still at the kill site and then on the third day her cub was seen for the first time. Details of the age and disposition of the cub were not given, but it should be possible to give some idea of the cub’s age in the next game report. A week after she was seen with the kill the Harry’s Female was seen again, a little further north on Toulon , hunting along the eastern bank of the Sand River.

May - September 2005

HARRY’S FEMALE
Location: TOULON
(No sightings)

April 2005

HARRY’S FEMALE
Location: TOULON
(1 sighting)

The single sighting of the Harry’s Female leopard took place in the middle of this game report period, when she was seen mating with the Chellahanga Male at Rocky Crossing. After mating, the two leopards went off in different directions.

March 2005

HARRY’S FEMALE

Location: TOULON
(2 sightings)

The two sightings of the Harry’s Female leopard in March were both sightings of her mating with the Chellahanga Male. A close look at the spot patterns of this female leopard confirmed that she was indeed the “original” Harry’s Female, daughter of the late Chellahanga Female.

January / February 2005

HARRY’S FEMALE

Location: TOULON

No confirmed sightings in January.

DECEMBER 2004
HARRY’S FEMALE

Location: TOULON
(3 sightings)

All three sightings of the Harry’s Female in December also involved the Chellahanga Male, and the two were seen mating on each occasion. If the Harry’s Female conceives, it would be interesting to note where she raises her cubs. Obviously, it would be in their best interests to be raised within the territory controlled by the Chellahanga Male.

NOVEMBER 2004
HARRY’S FEMALE
Location: TOULON

A relaxed adult female leopard that has been seen regularly on south-eastern Toulon has been referred to as the Harry’s Female. What still needs to be confirmed is whether this is the “original” Harry’s Female, i.e. a daughter of the late Chellahanga Female. Anyway, there were two sightings of this leopard during November. If indeed she is the daughter of the Chellahanga Female, a more accurate estimate of her age can be obtained, but she would be at least 10 years old now.

AUGUST 2000 - OCTOBER 2000

HARRYS FEMALE * 5 years 7 months

Location :NORTH CENTRAL TOULON
(no confirmed sightings)

JULY 2000

HARRYS FEMALE * 5 years 6 months

Location :NORTH CENTRAL TOULON
(no confirmed sightings)
Again, the lack of game-drive vehicle activity in the area usually occupied by the Harrys Female was probably the main reason for the lack of sightings of this leopard. There was one sighting of a female leopard which had been drawn to sounds of hyaenas near a lion kill in this area and which may have been the Harrys Female.

JUNE 2000

HARRYS FEMALE * 5 years 5 months

Location :NORTH CENTRAL TOULON
(2 sightings)
The sightings of the Harrys Female this month were the first in a long time, principally due to the lack of vehicle traffic in the south and eastern areas of the reserve where she typically resides. By all accounts, however, she appears in good health. There are no signs that she is pregnant or has cubs. The only litter known to have been born to this leopard disappeared within half a year of appearing.

MAY 2000

HARRYS FEMALE * 5 years 4 months

Location :CENTRAL TOULON
(no sightings)
Minimal game drive vehicle activity in the area generally patrolled by the Harrys Female has probably been the main reason for the lack of encounters with her during this last month.

FEBRUARY/ MARCH/ APRIL 2000

HARRYS FEMALE * 5 years 3 months

Location :CENTRAL TOULON
(no sightings)
Wet conditions have simply not allowed vehicles to regularly patrol those areas where this young leopard resides.

JANUARY 2000

HARRYS FEMALE * 5 years

Location : CENTRAL TOULON
(3 sightings)
The three sightings of the Harrys Female this month were all in areas where she is typically expected to be found. This leopard, which is one of the daughters of the Chellahanga Female, lost her first litter some months ago, but there is no indication if she is pregnant again.
