Dispite the large number of Wild Dog tracks frequently found around Dudley Crossing, there was only one sighting of Wild Dogs during the report period. On this occasions a pack of five Wild Dogs managed to kill a bushbuck on Toulon. There will be an expected increase of Wild Dog sightings in the next few months as the prey Species are drawn towards the Sand River for the very dry months. Only time will tell.

April 2008

Sightings of wild dogs have also been scant this month. Wild dogs were only seen on 8 occasions. However due to the nature of the dogs behavior and their prowess for hunting, and being diurnal hunters, they are always a favorite among the guests, especially when told of their endangered status. This month the dogs were seen to hunt successfully on a few occasions, however they never remained long on Mala Mala.

January 2007

The wild dogs have also been scarce over the last report period. The large pack has lost a few members; predominantly some of the cubs have not been seen with the pack in recent times. The pack now stands at 16 members. The other smaller pack of three dogs was only seen twice in the last month, both times close to the KNP into which they quickly made their way. This pack is the adult female and two sub adults. They do not appear to be part of the large pack and hopefully they will meet up with another small pack and they will combine to be a stronger pack.

Number of different Wild Dogs encountered : 19
