There were no sightings of wild dogs on Mala Mala in November / December 2005.

October 2005

There have been no sightings of wild dogs in Mala Mala over the past few months. However, tracks of at least two wild dogs were seen on the northern and eastern parts of the reserve. It can be hoped that there will soon be some wild dogs on the property again.

June / July / August / Septemer2005

There were three sightings of a pack of wild dogs on the reserve in May. Eleven dogs were counted, one of them being a female that was heavily pregnant. On the first occasion, the dogs were seen eating a bushbuck, but it is not known whether they killed it or scavenged it. Two weeks later, they were seen again, and killed a duiker. The third sighting was at night, and the dogs were sleeping on the boundary with the Kruger Park, near Clarendon Dam.

Thirteen wild dogs were seen near Clarendon Dam in the north-eastern corner of the reserve on 9 April. These dogs moved east into the Kruger National Park, but were found again the following day, near the Windmill on Eastern Flockfield. They were followed on the hunt that afternoon, and killed a duiker.

There was just a single sighting of two wild dogs in February. The dogs (an adult female and sub-adult female) were found in the Picadilly area of Mala Mala in the morning, moved south and east onto north-eastern Flockfield that afternoon, and were not seen again.

There was just one sighting of wild dogs in January. Two dogs were seen to the east of the Mlowathi River. They chased off a cheetah, and were then lost, running westwards into thick bush.
