• I arrived back on Sunday. MalaMala was as usual awesome. In the two days I was there last week I saw:
  1st afternoon game drive: elephants a few feet from vehicle, best rhino (5) sighting ever, lionesses and cubs with big male, white tailed mongoose, big male lion having a go at a genet in a tree!
  
• 1st morning game drive: herd of elephants, charging bull elephant, followed by leopard hunting, climbing a tree, continuing hunting a herd of impala, followed by a lioness, hunting the leopard, resulting in leopard missing the kill and climbing a tree for safety an adrenalin pumping experience.
  
• 2nd afternoon game drive: started out by seeing an awesome rhino sighting, nesting brown headed parrot, while enjoying sundowners standing on an open plain surrounded by zebra, wildebeest, impala & warthogs our sundowners were suddenly interrupted by 2 lionesses charging by in hot pursuit of a huge wart hog, which they missed, we followed them for two hours well after dark as they hunted in dramatic cloudy weather and they killed and Impala and called their 4 cubs - wotta night!
  
• 2nd morning game drive: incredible troop of baboons in amazing scenery on the Manyaleti River providing great mirth as they foraged and jumped from tree to tree, herd of nyala, incredible herd of 300+ Cape buffalo, 10 giraffes necking, leopard and giraffe together, spent 2 hours with the leopard as she meandered thru the bush and eventually climbed an apple leaf tree feet above our head; and to top it off as we returned for a late breakfast at 11:00am - a lone hippo on the lawn at the camp entrance!

Astonishing Africa

I was in a Land Rover at South Africa’s MalaMala Game Reserve snapping photos of a pride of lions less than 10 yards away, when my guide Bruce suddenly started the engine.

"Hold on," he said.

The next thing I knew, he was gunning the Rover through tall reeds as our tires made slow progress in the deep sand of a dry riverbed.
