About MalaMala

Nature's Orchestra

Have you heard ants stridulating... hippos and fish 'talking' underwater...
bats echolocating ...or the contact rumble of an elephant?

Hearing is a key to survival for all creatures, including humans. Although our ears hear sound, we do not necessarily pick up the more subtle vocalizations - even in our own backyard.

These special sounds of the bush are brought to life through a set of microphones and headsets and suddenly you realize you have been missing a remarkable nature experience!

What does the whooping call of a hyena mean, or the howl of a jackal, or roar of a lion?
How do birds or frogs get their messages across when they are all calling at the same time? Every living creature has a sound signature, but how do we interpret it?

Join wildlife sound recordist and animal behavior specialist Derek Solomon
for the answers and experience Africa in a way you never have before.
