Incentive / Group Proposal

The following will assist you in the planning of an incentive. Whilst the size and nature of the camps within the MalaMala Game Reserve allow for flexibility, please bear in mind that MalaMala is a wildlife sanctuary and consideration for conservation should be kept in mind.

Why is MalaMala the ideal choice for the smaller incentive market?

  • MalaMala’s intimate camps may be combined, or used independently for an exclusive, motivational and unique experience.
  • With such a large property (13 500 ha), and such low human intrusion (never more than 66 guests) – delegates are treated to the experience of a lifetime.
  • MalaMala’s team of staff is proficient in the game of hospitality. This allows group organizers and participants to focus on the “task” at hand, leaving all organization to the competent support structure within the respective camps.
  • Nature is the greatest teacher. For team building activities and motivational sessions, the bush environment works beautifully in facilitating the objectives required by many corporate companies in the contemporary environment.
  • MalaMala boasts a private registered airfield (AAM), and is serviced by a daily Airlink flight from Johannesburg. This is ideal for the smaller group. Larger groups could utilize the services of private charter aircraft. The ease of access reduces the time usually spent in lengthy travels.
  • MalaMala’s rates are fully inclusive of accommodation, meals and activities. This ensures that no hidden costs inflate the overall expense.

What can delegates expect to experience at MalaMala?

Day of arrival

Delegates will be welcomed to MalaMala with a cool drink and the friendly smiles of the team of staff on hand to ensure every aspect of the next few days flows seamlessly. A brief orientation of the camp will serve to familiarize the members of the party as to the location of key facilities (such as the “Safari Store” for a spot of retail therapy) and their rooms.

Helpful Hint : The more information that we are able to obtain before arrival (such as passport numbers, home addresses, full names and dietary requirements), the easier and more enjoyable the check-in process.

The following three days are filled with exciting game drives (usually about 3 to 4 hours in length), sumptuous meals (lunch and breakfast are served on the deck or in the air conditioned dining room, while dinner is enjoyed in the traditional reed-enclosed boma under the stars), relaxation (either by the pool, in the sauna, or enjoying a good book in the Monkey Club Library, or in the privacy of guests rooms).

Some good ideas for consideration with the planning of a group at MalaMala Game Reserve:

THE BUSH COCKTAIL

This is a very popular choice amongst Incentive organizers. During the afternoon/ evening drive once the sun has set, the various vehicles meet up in a pre-designated area. A blazing fire is burning, a fully stocked bar is set up, and a selection of hot and cold h'ors d'oeuvres are served by the MalaMala catering team. Guests can enjoy the evening sounds whilst sipping on a relaxing drink in the company of their colleagues. Following their cocktail, guests once again board their vehicles and continue back to the camps (game-driving en route) for dinner in the boma.

This event can be left as a surprise for the guests.

Cost - ZAR 165.00 nett per person

“INTER-VEHICLE” COMPETITION

We suggest a bird or mammal competition on one of the game drives. Our checklists include a score next to each bird/animal variety. Each Landrover is given a “scored’ check-list which they must complete during the drive. Each animal must be seen by at least two people on the Landrover, including the ranger. At the end of the day, the score cards are handed in and prizes are given to the guests in the Landrover that obtained the maximum score. A great way of building camaraderie, encouraging team work.

RONARDSEY YOUTH CULTURAL TRADITIONAL DANCERS & AIDS ORPHANAGE CHOIR

Approximately 15 orphans, many left parentless by the AIDS pandemic which has ravaged much of Africa, will travel to MalaMala to sing and dance for the guests. Their harmony is moving. And funds go towards their costs of living. We suggest this takes place at the bush cocktail.

Cost - ZAR 5500.00 in total (including traveling costs).

REPTILE DEMONSTRATION

We highly recommend this enthralling display featuring various snakes and other creepy crawlies. It is very interesting and educational and provides a fascinating insight into the behaviour and fears of these often maligned creatures. MalaMala is able to organise this demonstration on your behalf at a suitable time between game drives and other activities.

Cost - ZAR 1000.00 - ZAR 3000.00 depending on the availability of the companies concerned

ROOM “DROPS”

Should the organizing company wish to reward delegates, it is always a nice idea to arrange for room gifts from the MalaMala Safari Store with the turn-downs each evening (while guests are on game drive, or enjoying dinner). A variety of local goods are available, including jewellery, clothing, hats, books, dvds – but to name a few. We will gladly consult with the organizers in terms of which of the items are most suited to the profiles of the attendees.

WINE LIST

Should you wish to pre-select wines, we will gladly furnish you with a comprehensive wine list.

THE small PRINT:

  • Whilst we will endeavor to accommodate any suggestions made by the organizers of the group in terms of activities or functions, it must be remembered that MalaMala is primarily a reserve which specializes in the preservation of the environment.
  • The bush cocktail and boma dinners are weather-dependent. It may therefore be a good idea to organize the cocktail on the second night in camp – not detracting from the first game drive, but also allowing for the opportunity to change it to the last night should bad weather (or excellent game viewing) prevail.

IMPORTANT NOTES:

  • Please ensure that luggage is clearly labeled with the guests’ names to enable us to place it in their respective rooms prior to arrival at MalaMala Game Reserve.
  • Should the group be occupying more than one camp, please ensure that luggage is colour-coded accordingly.
  • Please advise if any guests will be celebrating a birthday or special occasion which you may want us to be aware of.
  • Please advise if we should cater for any special dietary requirements.
  • Please advise a full accounting plan in terms of which charges are to be billed back to a master account (eg beverages and communication costs), and which are to be collected from guests individually. The total cost of the reservation and any additional arrangements made is required in advance of the group’s arrival.
  • Please note game viewing on the MalaMala Game Reserve is reserved for those guests actually accommodated in the reserve, i.e. no day trips are allowed and no other camps apart from the three MalaMala Game Reserve camps have access to the MalaMala Game Reserve.
  • Trying to incorporate too many activities into an itinerary is not advised as guests do not have enough time to relax and enjoy the bush experience. As a private game reserve, our primary aim is to ensure that all guests experience as much wildlife as possible, and as such any extra events should be seen to be a secondary enhancement to this primary aim.

Please do not hesitate to contact us should you require further information, or should you have specific queries that may not have been covered.
