An alternative to consider on the
journey to and from MalaMala Game Reserve is the "Panoramic
Transfer". This trip, with a qualified guide in a luxury
air-conditioned microbus, takes you through some of the most spectacular
scenery South Africa has to offer. In order to fully appreciate
and to take in the natural beauty of the Panorama Tour one needs
a full day. However for those with limited time, a half day option
is available.
Although the term Panorama Route refers to the route along the Blyde River Canyon in Mpumalanga, it is also widely used to describe the entire area along the northern Drakensberg escarpment, including the towns of Graskop, Pilgrim’s Rest and Sabie.
This is arguably one of the most beautiful regions of South Africa, where the inland plateau drops abruptly and steeply to the Lowveld, up to a thousand metres below, opening up fantastic views of the plains stretching away towards the Kruger National Park in the east.
Generally-speaking, the views are most reliable in the dry winter months. During the rest of the year the views can be impaired by clouds moving in from the Indian Ocean in the east, rising over the escarpment and often bringing with them heavy mist and rain.
Should these weather conditions exist on the date of your booking, this may mean that you will not be able to see some of the spectacular views from attractions such as Long Tom Pass, The Pinnacle, God’s Window, Wonder View and Blyde River Canyon.
There are many attractions in this area that are of interest to tourists, but unfortunately time does not allow us to include all of these during a Panorama Route transfer. We have to take the time constraints of your particular itinerary into consideration, as well as the prevailing weather conditions on the day.
We will normally include the following attractions: Pilgrim’s Rest, Graskop, God’s Window and Bourke’s Luck Potholes. Entrance fee to the Potholes is included. Pilgrim’s Rest can be substituted with Long Tom Pass and Mac Mac falls.
It is important to note the driver/guide will adjust the route to be taken to allow for the weather conditions on the day. No refunds will be made in respect of any attraction that is not visited en route, nor for any portion of the route not being covered, for any reason whatsoever.
